and she has some great stories to tell.

From Concept art to the final painting

As a digital artist,
I find that the most exciting and fulfilling part of my work is bringing fictional characters to life on the digital canvas.

With Nah'hali, the mystical Djinn, as my latest subject, I knew I had my work cut out for me.
Working closely with my client, we brainstormed and collaborated to craft three distinct variations of Nah'hali's appearance, ranging from the simplistic to the highly detailed.

It was a fascinating process of trial and error, with each variation offering a unique perspective on this magical being.

After thoughtful review and reflection, we ultimately selected a simplified version that best captured the essence of this fascinating and enigmatic character.

Inspiration for the Character Design

I've drawn inspiration from
Jean-Leon Gerome 's work and Orientalism.

Next was the lamp

Djinns live in enchanted lamps, after all.

I decided to play with the idea of a classic oil lamp, exploring different designs and variations.

Ultimately, we landed on designs H and I, which perfectly encapsulated the character's unique blend of mystique and magic.

The final product was a lamp that seemed to sleep and awaken, a captivating visual representation of Nah'hali's otherworldly presence.

The Scene

Based on my client's vision,
we knew, that we wanted an inside scene.

Inspiration for the scene

For the scene, I heavily drew inspiration from the rich and evocative Orientalism,
as well as the captivating work of
Jean-Leon Gerome.

I also took inspiration from the bustling bazaars of Egypt and India, incorporating elements of their unique architecture and design into the scene.

Nah'hali is a Flirtatious and mischievous spirit.
So something alluring and seductive would work great for the scene.

After presenting several options for the scene,
my client carefully considered each one
and ultimately made the decision to go with a seductive pose
that perfectly captured the character's alluring and mysterious nature.

Coming soon

Thanks for some great feedback,
I'm working on an update, explaining the rendering process in more depth.

If you're here at the moment, it means you found about this page on Discord.
I'll make a post about it when the page is updated on my Social Media ^^

Rendering

From sketch, to lineart, to flat colors, shadows, etc !

I wanted to create a background that was both visually interesting and thematically relevant.

To achieve this, I drew on sketches of floating brass heads that I had made during the ideation phase.

These heads, which are suspended in mid-air behind Nah'hali, add a touch of mystery and otherworldliness to the scene, hinting at the deeper powers and hidden secrets of this enigmatic character.

Overall, the addition of these brass heads helped to elevate the scene and add a new layer of depth and intrigue.

They weren't very visible at the end ...
Because they were a little too interesting to be there !

Close -ups

Enjoy the process.
